Kara’s Experience with Stay Awhile Midwifery.

Are you looking for a natural and empowering birthing experience in Utah? Look no further than our team of skilled midwives. But don't just take our word for it - read this review from one of our satisfied clients:

“Teryl has been with me for three of the biggest moments of my life.  She is the only person other than my husband who was with me for all of my births.  For my first two births she was my doula.  They were precipitous births, which if you don’t know what is happening, they can be very very scary.  Teryl was as calming and assuring as anyone I’ve ever seen.  I remember saying “I don’t think I can do this” to which she replied “But you are”.  She was so convincing that I was like “oh okay, you’re right, I am”.  My third and final birth I knew I wanted her to be my midwife and that I wanted to have a home birth.  I called her up and she booked me right there on the spot.  We obviously planned for a very fast delivery.  As soon as I had my first birth pain (in the middle of the night), I called her.  She and her student, Kalli, rushed right over. You know what they say about best laid plans… NOTHING was the same as my first two.  Even though this was my 3rd birth it was like I’d never done it before, it was night and day different. I was upset and in complete denial that I was in a long labor instead of a precipitous one. She reassured me and helped me come to terms with what was happening. I wish I had a dollar for every time Teryl told me I was doing good and was in fact in labor. I was so scared about having any interventions because I was worried it would end with a birth I didn’t want at the hospital. After doing an exam, Teryl came up with several different options and let me decide what I was comfortable with. She obviously knew more about what was happening than I did.  After discussing all of the options, Teryl and her team left to grab dinner to allow me to contemplate with my husband how we wanted to proceed.  When they came back they had bought flower crowns for all of us to wear as a way to lighten the mood and brighten my outlook. 20+ hours later, and what felt like forever pushing, I finally gave birth. My baby boy presented face first instead of crown and needed to have a bit of resuscitation. Teryl was calm as a cucumber and never once made me think anything but the best would happen. I never was in fear for my own or my baby’s safety. There’s no doubt in my mind that if I had been in a hospital setting I would not have had the birth that I wanted. I love Teryl and Kalli more than anything and 100% consider them dear friends. And if that’s not the hallmark of a good birth team I don’t know what is.”
